Yellow Chrysolite

ChrysoliteChrysolite: A golden yellow variety of peridot. Also called precious olivine, it is a mineral that can be found in the layer below the earth's crust .

It is also known as chrysolite from the ancients "chrysolithos", meaning "golden stone". It has an oily look which looks something like olive oil. Good crystals are more valuable than cut stones, so are usually purchased by mineral collectors.

According to some, the name is from Topazos, a small island in the Red Sea, where the Romans obtained a stone which they called by this name, but which is now called chrysolite.
