Bendis ~ Song and Drama

I have to tell you.......

I love to sing!  Seems like that is one place that I always find joy!  From early childhood, some of my fondest memories are of singing.

My grandmother was a voice teacher and when I was very little, she gave me instruction on performance, but as for actual training, alas by the time I was old enough for voice lessons, she had left us.

I also remember singing with my Mother - she had a fine voice and when we both took up the guitar - what a great time we had!

Whenever we gather for ritual, music is always a part of our Circle.  The collection that follows is a combination of music I grew up singing and a few  songs we sing in Circles.  The files are kind of big so you are really going to have to be patient if you want to listen!

My Daughter, Wendy - Standing Like a Tree

This next song holds a very special place in my heart.  Ellan Vannin is referred to as the "unofficial " national anthem of the Isle of Man.  The Isle of Man is a small island smack dab in the middle of the Irish Sea - surrounded by Scotland, Ireland and England.  The symbol shown below, The Three Legs of Man are usually displayed with the words (in Gaelic)  "Whichever way you throw me, I shall stand."

The small island, while a part of Great Britain , does stand alone as an independent country.  They are known for having the oldest democracy in existence today.  Much dearer to my heart is the musical heritage and the many references to the sacredness of the Isle.  The folk lore of the Isle of Man is rich in tradition still carried forward today! While I am a citizen of this country (USA) ~ my soul comes from these beautiful, green hills by the sea.
